2024
Mom Objects is comprised of a series of scented objects I found and took from my 92 year old
Mother’s apartment without her knowledge over a period of 2 months during the winter of 2024.
For 2 months every time I visited my aging parents in the apartment where I grew up, I assigned myself the task of finding and stealing a scented object I associated with my mother. The process exposed a quiet web of intersecting dynamics around intimacy, transgression, care and control.
I called the series “Mom objects” as a double entendre, not fully intending for her to experience the pieces and wondering if she would indeed object if she did smell them.
In fact she came to the opening of the exhibit and was quite delighted with the pieces. She died a month later on June 28th 2024, at the age of 93.
